Description :
This solid brass rosette backplate, likely from the early 20th century, features a rich, aged patina with visible wear from decades of use. Designed to accommodate a spindle-driven knob, it includes a square shaft opening and remnants of the internal locking cam mechanism on the reverse side. Originally part of a mortise lockset or rim lock system, this piece would have been mounted flush to a door, adding both function and decorative detail.
